Job Description

You will be a key member of the Council’s technical finance team, supporting the Finance Manager in key financial control tasks, and helping to develop other colleagues within the function. You will be supported by the Finance Manager and Assistant Director Technical Finance to develop your technical skills and become a specialist in this area.

The main duties will include:

• Significant role in completion and production of the statutory Statement of Accounts (including Collection Fund and Group Accounts)
• Leading the external audit and being the key point of contact
• Expert Excel skills and experience with financial systems to interrogate data
• Supporting maintenance of the fixed asset register and capital accounting
• Review of VAT returns and supporting the organization with VAT queries
• Continuous improvement and development of financial control processes

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

As a confident and inspirational finance professional you will understand and exemplify effective relationship management and be committed to team development, shaped by quality service delivery and customer outcomes. You will have the ability to analyze complex financial information and be able to explain this to a range of stakeholders.

The post holder must be a CCAB/CIMA qualified accountant and will be expected to maintain up to date technical knowledge and develop processes and procedures to ensure compliance with new requirements and legislation and relevant Codes of Practice. Exam qualified candidates working towards full qualification with relevant experience will be considered. Local government experience or other public sector experience desirable.
