Job Description
  • Lead/support improvement projects within the financial accounting team such as new company formations. 
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounts to trial balance.
  • Working with Finance Partners, Stores and Procurement to resolve any unusual matters and ensure that any queries are dealt with in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • To liaise with, and assist external auditors / HMRC inspectors / suppliers in order to help achieve compliance with financial reporting matters or requirements.
  • Provide support to the Financial Accounting team with ad-hoc duties to facilitate projects and the month, year-end or other related tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Accountancy qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Robust knowledge of accounting fundamentals and financial reporting acquired through qualification or experience
  • Experience of accurate and timely production of financial accounts, preferably in a charity environment
  • Experience/appreciation of a strong financial controls environment and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of accounting
  • Ability to organize and prioritize their own workload and multi-task in a busy environment
  • Proactive approach to resolving issues and making improvements
  • Judgment to consider when to escalate issues/concerns
  • Self-motivated but also able to work as a key team player
  • Trustworthy, discrete, confident and accurate in all matters
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain good customer relationships
  • Good personal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with customers, users and other finance staff
  • Open minded to flexible ways of working and able to adapt to new processes and procedures to improve and streamline workflows
  • Good office system skills including excellent Excel skills, Word and Email
  • Confidence in dealing with internal and external people, both on the phone and face to face
  • Experience of extracting data from an accounting system into Excel
  • Keen to take on new tasks with an ability to suggest and implement change and improvements in order to ensure best practice is followed
