Job Description

The job holder will be responsible for working with suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders to develop integration and implementation methodologies for services that are being developed or enhanced for use on the Airwave Managed Services platform.

The job holder will provide engineering management of IP data networks to ensure cost effective, reliable systems that perform to customer requirements, and 3rd line technical assistance on a range of IP, networking and integration issues.

Responsibilities will include:-

  • Implementation of strategic plans for integration and testing services, including the interpretation of the overall product performance to ensure system requirements are defined and met.
  • System integration planning and management. Working with internal and external component suppliers to generate system integration test and implementation plans.
  • Assisting third party suppliers and customers during fault diagnostics for system integration problems, and providing technical guidance to identify resolutions.
  • Verification that Airwave control room services are ready for customer testing.
  • Add/Move/Change implementations on the CE network.
  • Ensuring security integrity of the CE network.
  • Providing technical guidance on the viability of integration proposals and their financial impact.
  • Supplier design management - complex and multifaceted issues arise during development and delivery that require management and solutions to ensure customer requirements are delivered.
  • Conducting feasibility analysis for interface development, configuration, and testing and risk assessment.
  • Management and implementation of integration delivery plans and schedule.
  • Participating in call-out Rota providing 1st Line remote support to ESN Production network if required.
  • Identify & implement best practice and improvements to drive customer satisfaction through provision of a great customer experience.
  • Leadership of a multi-disciplinary & highly skilled team including technical and customer facing managers, professional Engineers, technical experts and process specialists.
  • People cost Centre management.
  • Service and technical design of new solutions and services ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, 20001 & 27001 standards.
  • Transition of new solutions and services to in-life.
  • Technical and Service design process ownership ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, 20001 & 27001 standards.
  • Enterprise architecture and associated solutions design.
  • Build and integration of IP networks for the delivery of service to customers.
  • Service architecture including process and procedure development and maintenance.
  • Ownership within UKMS of technical telecommunications standards (e.g. ETSI WG4 & 3GPP SA6) and interface into associated MSI Standards groups.

First degree or equivalent experience in a communications engineering related subject. Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent experience. Experience of technical team leadership in a communications engineering environment. Technical awareness and experience of designing, developing and implementing integration and testing methodologies, and resolution of sub-system integration issues with suppliers and customers. Technical knowledge of Airwave networks, and operation of the external interfaces used for integration of third party supplied IP equipment. Proven experience in undertaking technical assessments, making technical decisions and advising the business of commercial impacts. Excellent attention to detail and good, accurate numerical and logical skills. Excellent technical background in IP networks/addressing and connection rules. Detailed understanding of integration tasks and processes. Understanding of software development and testing. Good project management skills. Understanding of contracts, and ability to negotiate at a technical level with customers and suppliers. Understanding of telephony systems and system engineering. Understanding of IT data systems for storage and retrieval. Previous experience of TETRA and other mobile network technologies.
