Job Description

We are looking for a Trainee Pensions Administrator to join the Birmingham team to start your career in financial services and pension’s administration.

  • Do you want to make a real difference to individuals saving for their retirement?
  • Do you have strong numerical skills and a flair for working with people?
  • Are you interested in starting or developing your career working in pensions?
  • Would you like to develop a deep understanding of the UK's pension’s environment and have opportunities to apply this understanding in ways that add real value to our scheme members and our clients?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to all or most of these questions then this could be the role for you.

Some of the activities you will get involved in early on in your career with us include:

  • Speak to pension scheme members on the phone and apply your knowledge and expertise to help answer their questions and come up with solutions to help them.
  • Learn about and process a wide range of major pension scheme member events including retirements, transfers and understand the legislation that govern these processes.
  • Do complex calculations to help members understand the value of their pension scheme.
  • Carry out payment of pensioner benefits, to include the checking of quotations produced by the system we use.
  • Working on client-specific projects, such as the delivery of annual benefit statements and administration reports.
  • Attend internal meetings, client updates and meetings with the Trustees of pension’s schemes we administer, and be able to showcase the work you have done to add value to these.
  • Update records and information on our systems.
  • Maintain pension scheme cash books, reconciling bank statements and producing reports for our clients.
  • Work on projects.
  • Study for a professional qualification with the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) which we will support you through financially and with study leave.

To succeed in this role you should be numerate, able to communicate clearly and concisely both in written and verbal form, and show some commercial awareness (i.e. understand our industry, the financial and regulatory environment we operate in and the challenges we face). You should also be interested in working with our clients and understand the importance of exceptional client relationships. You should be able to plan and organize your time and workload effectively so as to meet deadlines, handle a number of tasks at once and be motivated by working as part of a busy and supportive team.

In Return:

You will get the opportunity to take an already strong brand and business to the next level. With a real focus on quality and innovation you will be able to produce first rate, exciting work you can be truly proud of in a supportive and creative environment.

You can expect a highly competitive salary and an award winning comprehensive benefits package, including full study support where applicable, a share of the firm’s profits, good work life balance, ability to buy and sell holidays, your birthday off and huge array of other flexible benefits. The firm is committed to the personal and career development of all employees and this position offers excellent growth potential within a dynamic and growing organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You will be educated to at least GCSE/Standard level with a Grade C or above in Math’s and English, or equivalent. We welcome applications from individuals with further/higher education and professional qualifications, such as PMI. Experience of working in a professional office environment. Basic awareness of client service standards and client care, including the ability to liaise with members/clients over the telephone. A basic knowledge of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension schemes would be helpful but is not essential.
