Job Description

The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for the following:

  • Senior member of the UK Financial Accounting team, playing a key role in the development of the team
  • Building strong relationships across the business, including with FP&A, Underwriting, Client Management, Service teams so that you can represent UK Finance interests in Group wide projects, including the implementation of new strategies and onboarding of new clients
  • Ownership of the UK month-end reporting and UK balance sheets for the two UK subsidiaries
  • Managing the monthly reporting process and controls, ensuring the production of timely, accurate financial information and analysis for the UK operating segment and subsidiary legal entities.
  • Expected to challenge the status quo of processes
  • Supporting the UK FC in the reporting and presentation of monthly results to the Group CFO, clearly documenting and articulating drivers for variances to budget, key accounting judgments, and opportunities and risks to the budget for the financial year
  • Take a lead role in critical Finance Projects, including the implementation of a new general ledger, implementation of IFRS 17 and the automation of existing processes
  • Responsible for ensuring the UK is compliant with the Group Financial Risk Control Framework.
  • Ensuring controls are designed and implemented effectively and appropriately documented in the risk management system
  • Taking a lead role in responding to technical accounting issues that impact UK Finance
  • Building strong relationships with external audit team to complete Group and local audits to tight deadlines
  • Ensuring the UK segment is compliant with all Group policies and relevant technical accounting pronouncements and standards
  • Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience of the following finance systems would be beneficial but not essential; Cognos (budgeting and forecasting), Workday (general ledger)
  • To ensure own responsibility for personal development areas and agree appropriate opportunities with your line manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Engaging and capable of delivering clear objectives
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Able to work and communicate effectively at all levels of the business including Group Financial Controller and external advisors
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Confident, a self-starter, with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment
  • Able to demonstrate good attention to detail, good judgment showing logical decision making
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices able to make sound day to day accounting decisions and solve accounting issues and problems
  • Strong technical accounting expertise including IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Strong understanding of robust processes and effective control
  • Experience of Insurance accounting
  • Experience of working in regulated environment, including Solvency II
  • Working knowledge of tax accounting, corporation tax computations, and indirect taxes (VAT / IPT)
  • Qualified accountant ACA/ACCA
