Job Description

You will take full responsibility for financial reporting and control across five institutional funds investing in care homes, retirement villages, affordable housing, and Octopus’ own care home development business.

You will act as the key finance business partner to the Fund Managers and Investment Directors and will manage relationships with administrators, advisors, and our joint venture partners’ finance teams. They will directly manage one Finance Manager and one Fund Accountant, with two further indirect reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee preparation of all internal and external financial and regulatory reporting (including tax compliance) across the funds and entities, ensuring these are completed accurately and to required deadlines.
  • Manage relationships with external finance teams, administrators, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring the smooth and accurate flow of information between all parties.
  • Oversee the provision of financial information to external investors and entity boards, including the presentation of information at investor committee and/or board meetings.
  • Finance lead for transactions including property and/or company acquisitions/disposals, new funds, and joint ventures.
  • Finance lead for the set up of new funds, including the appointment of external administrators and establishing reporting frameworks, templates and timetables.
  • Set accounting policies and manage the preparation of technical accounting papers for transactions or new entities.
  • Manage a team of four (two direct and two indirect reports), setting challenging objectives and managing performance in line with the group’s performance review timetable.
  • Effectively influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead other ad hoc projects as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in the Financial Services and Real Estate sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of fund structures and reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent technical skills, including IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 102).
  • Experience in REIT reporting and compliance or under Housing SORP would be an advantage.
  • Excellent team and project management skills.
  • Experience in managing multiple stakeholder relationships, including influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to deliver accuracy in a high-pressure environment.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changing team requirements.
