Job Description

The role will suit a part qualified management accountant and play a pivotal role supporting the Finance Manager to ensure the timely delivery of accurate monthly management accounts, KPIs and reporting; to add value to the business as a Finance Business Partner; and to continuously improve the finance function of the business.

Shared responsibility for balance sheet controls and reconciliations to ensure the financial integrity of the management accounts, including but not limited to: co-ordination of the reporting process, review of posted transactions, balance sheet reconciliations, multi-currency bank account reconciliation, inter-company reconciliations, fixed asset schedule, stock/WIP, prepayments and accruals

  • Take part in the review of month end figures with departmental managers
  • Play a key role and help develop the processes and information required to manage the production of monthly and quarterly management accounting information.
  • Supports the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity of financial data/information held, related files and ensuring system upgrades are effectively implemented
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of financial applications and databases
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager and IT Manager to support the production of KPI’s, management accounts and management information
  • Make continuous improvements in the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of information/reports
  • Will play a pivotal role supporting the Finance Manager with the annual financial budget timetable
  • Ensures budget holders receive and understand financial information to fulfil their own responsibilities.
  • Can help identify opportunities to proactively develop and continuously improve robust and effective financial procedures, controls and systems (IT) that are documented, regularly reviewed and part of ISO where applicable
  • Play a critical role supporting the Finance Manager with the annual Financial Audit including the preparation of auditable accounts, working papers and full balance sheet reconciliations
  • Work closely with external Auditors to ensure an efficient Audit by providing assurance of key processes, implementation of recommendations, and responding to requests for information within timescales to achieve a “clean” audit.
  • ONS, HMRC filings, Grant Claims and other statutory reporting as required
  • Supports the Finance Manager, Finance Director and the Management Team to promote an organizational culture of teamwork through excellent financial service provision noted for its high quality and accountability
  • Promote the work and the professional image of the Finance team to the organization and external stakeholders
  • Proactive personal development of themselves as a consummate Finance professional
  • Deputies for the Finance Manager as required
  • Development of the financial acumen of non-financial managers and other finance team members to fulfil their financial obligations
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback on areas for improvement
  • Identify areas for improvement in the reporting process and work with the Finance Manager to develop and implement changes in a Finance Business Partner role
  • Prepare ad hoc commercial reports/analysis
  • Is proactive in seeking out an understanding of how the business operates and the key business drivers to help add value and insight to work delivered
  • Working directly with the Finance Director, Finance Manager, IT Manager and management team on individual projects to improve the flow of financial information
  • Supports the business by providing support to proposers of improvement and development projects including feasibility studies, options appraisals, financial models and business cases
  • Support initiatives to maximize income, identify and recommend initiatives that deliver value for money

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Economics, Business Management or other relevant degree; part qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
  • Proven background working in the Finance department of a manufacturing SME
  • Demonstrable experience supporting the production of monthly management accounts, reporting, balance sheet reviews and departmental reviews
  • Able to handle and manipulate large amounts of data in Excel via SQL data queries linked to the ERP system, to produce regular monthly reports and the design of ad hoc reports and analysis
  • Great Microsoft Office skills in particular Excel – designing and creating tools and reports using functions such as pivot tables, vlookup, sumifs, sum products, indexing
  • Familiar with and has helped develop dashboard reporting for business KPIs etc.
